The Aquinas Blugolds simply could not be stopped in the second half as they turned a close game at halftime against the Kewaunee Storm into a 44-19 rout in Wisconsin Rapids on Friday.
The Storm struck first with a clock-eating drive that took more than five minutes off the clock and put six on the scoreboard after Mitchell Thompson scored on a quarterback sneak.
The Blugolds would make their mark in the second quarter with two quick touchdowns on a nine-yard rush by Calvin Hargrove and a long passing play from Jackson Flottmeyer to Collin Conzemius to make it 14-6. The Blugolds left enough time on the clock for Thompson to find Maddix Mueller on a quick pattern to the front pylon to make it 14-12 at the break.
It was all Blugolds after half time as they scored on every drive in the third quarter and outscored the Storm 30-7 in the last two frames. Hargrove scored two of the four rushing touchdowns in the half. The Storm would make it a two-score game in the fourth quarter after Owen Carlson found the endzone in his return to the lineup.
The Bluegolds would answer that score and then some after forcing a safety and following it up with their fourth touchdown of the half to secure their second straight title game appearance.
The Storm finished the season 11-2.
