DCY Swim Team Season Opener

The Door County Y SWIM team kicked off its season this week by participating in the Schroeder YMCA Fall Invite in Brown Deer, WI. DCY SWIM had 52 swimmers participate in this large meet which was hosted in the pool where the State Championship meet is held each year. Coach Mike McHugh said, “This pool is one of the largest in the state, and it can be intimidating, especially for new swimmers, of which we had several. Our kids did an amazing job!”

All swimmers were allowed to swim 3 events of their choice. The meet is divided by age groups, with an 8-under, 9-10,11-12,13-14, and 15-over age group. We had 31 top 3 times in all age groups, with 13-First place swims in all groups. We honor 2 swimmers per meet, the overall best Performance swimmer and the swimmer displaying the best Character at the meet. Nadia Kurek won all of her events at the meet-50 free, 25 back, and 50 back-receiving the Best Performance award, and Amelia Michalski received the Best Character award for partnering with a new swimmer during all 6 hours of the meet.

DCY SWIM also had a Mock Meet on November 10th at the Peterson Aquatic Center, with 97 swimmers on our team participating! This is a great way to introduce our new swimmers to a meet atmosphere and format, and set base times for all swimmers. Our next meet will be back at the Schroeder pool for a very large Invite, the Finalist Meet held on December 3-4.
