Both Phoenix basketball teams take on state rival Milwaukee

The matchup of the Wisconsin Horizon league teams will be in full effect Thursday night as both UWGB’s womens’ and mens’ team will take on the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

The Phoenix womens’ team will be on the road in Milwaukee taking on the Panthers, after their trip to the St. Pete’s Showcase. A 1-1 finish in the showcase was due to a close loss to the Florida Gators 61-52 on Thanksgiving afternoon. The Phoenix bounced back however, to take the win over Northeastern 56-46 on Friday. Sydney Levy was the leading scorer for the Phoenix against Northeastern with 14 points.

The Panthers are 2-4 on the season with their big win of the season coming in an overtime win over Boise State 55-54. Milwaukee is led by Emma Wittmershaus, who has averaged 9.2 points per game so far this season.

On the mens’ side of things, Green Bay has started their season off slow, losing their first 6 games, all in double digit fashion as well. Brock Heffner was a bright spot for the Phoenix in their last matchup against UIC, scoring 19 points on 6 for 9 shooting and 6 for 10 free throw shooting. The Phoenix will begin their Horizon league play against the Panthers at home at the Resch Center.

Milwaukee is on a three game winning streak to get their record to a solid 5-3 in non-conference play. The Panthers have played two power five opponents this season, both being losses to Purdue and Iowa State who both qualified for NCAA tournament last season. Milwaukee will be a tough test for the struggling Green Bay Phoenix team.

Both teams will tip off at 7:00 P.M.
