Phoenix have forgettable night against Milwaukee teams

Both Green Bay Phoenix basketball teams battled their in-state rivals Milwaukee to unsatisfactory results on Thursday.

In Milwaukee, the Phoenix women were down at halftime but up at the end of the third quarter. They held a 52-49 lead with just under six minutes remaining but were held scoreless the rest of the way as the Panthers won the game 59-52. Maddy Schreiber led the team in scoring with ten points, while Bailey Butler and Hailey Oskey chipped in with nine each. The Phoenix will have to wait until 1 p.m. on Saturday to possibly get their first Horizon League win at IUPUI.

At the Resch Center, the Phoenix men gave up a 14-5 run at the end of the first half and continued to slide downhill from there as they lost to the Panthers 81-67. All-Horizon League performer Cade Meyer had his best game of the year with 19 points. Brock Heffner and Randy Tucker helped out with 12 points, and Zae Blake chipped in with 10. The Phoenix will also try to get their first win of the Horizon League season when IUPUI comes to town for an 11 a.m. tilt at the Resch Center.
