The Door County YMCA Striver Excel Silver Gymnastic Team won gold this past weekend. The Striver Team competed in Menominee Michigan in a five team “Pink” Invitational hosted by the Marinette-Menominee YMCA.

The Silver team edged out four teams to bring the Gold Team Trophy home to Door County. Competing and medaling for the Silver Team were:

Ellie Kelsey in the nine and under group captured 1st in the all- around, floor, vault, beam, and bars. Greta Virgin in the 10 & 11 age group took 2nd on beam while teammate Keira Clark placed 1st on floor, 2nd on beam and 2nd in the all-around. In the 12 and older group Lauren Gaida earned gold in the all- around, floor and vault. Lauren placed 2nd on beam. Evelynn Kelsey grabbed gold on vault and silver on bars.

The Excel Platinum girls were the only group with a team score. Placing individually for the Platinum team were nine and under gymnast, Shaylyn Asher who captured gold on the vault. In the 12 and older age group, Amelia Zoschke grabbed gold on vault and beam and took 2nd in the all -around. Anna Gallardo-Ibarra won gold on bars and in the all-around and Anna grabbed silver on beam.

The level 6 team grabbed Bronze in the Team category. Individually, Estelle Duerst, ten and under grabbed gold on beam, silver on floor and vault and bronze in the all-around. In the 11 and older group Shylee Asher earned silver on bars and placed 4th in the all-around. Amira Anschutz took gold in the all-around and bars. Amira earned silver on beam, bronze on vault and 4th on floor.

The Striver Team will have their next competition in January of 2023 when they make their way to the Green Bay YMCA Invitational. The Team has had great success in their first four competitions of the 2022-2023 season. The team is coached by Nikki Pollman, Heather Haese, and Gerritt DeJonge.
