New Badger faces take on Oklahoma State in Guaranteed Rate Bowl

Some unfamiliar faces will take the field for the first time for the Wisconsin Badgers, and some familiar ones will take the field for their final time as they take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl in Phoenix, Arizona.

After a disappointing season from their expected standards, the Badgers will look to finish the season off on a high note, before Luke Fickell and company fully take over the team. Interim Head Coach and longtime Defensive Coordinator Jim Leonhard will remain in charge of the team for the game, Luke Fickell announced, as it will be Leonhard’s last game as a coach of the Badgers after many successful seasons. Wisconsin will be without a handful of key players, with star defensive players Keeanu Benton and Nick Herbig, and Starting Quarterback Graham Mertz transferring out of the program, and heading to Florida. The Quarterback for the game has not been announced yet, with true Freshman Myles Burkett and senior Chase Wolf battling it out for the starting job.

On the Oklahoma State side, they as well are coming off of a down season to their standards, as both teams were ranked within the top 20 in the first poll, with Wisconsin at 18 and Oklahoma State at 12. Head Coach Mike Gundy also lost many players to the portal, with 14 players officially entering their name in, with some already finding new homes. None of those players were bigger than Quarterback Spencer Sanders, who remains in the portal after an outstanding career at Oklahoma State. A matchup that would have been pivotal to begin the season has found itself turned into a third-tier bowl game, but an entertaining one nonetheless.

Kickoff from Chase Field in Arizona is set for 9:15 P.M.
