Wrestling round-up: Kewaunee's Thompson top finisher in tournament action

At a pair of tournaments featuring well over 100 teams, the area's four wrestling teams posted strong showings ahead of the turn of the calendar.

Two Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol wrestlers came home with hardware from this week's On the Water Classic in Oshkosh. Spencer Madsen and Ben Roman both won their final match of the day to take 11th place during the two-day tournament. Despite only having four wrestlers, they finished in front of 18 other teams.

The Kewaunee wrestling team placed two in the On The Water Wrestling Classic. Mitchell Thompson pinned three of his first four opponents before losing in the championship round to take second place overall at 195 pounds. A weight class up from him, Ezra Ducat won his final match of the day to finish in seventh place.

The Southern Door wrestling team could not bring home any hardware with them from the On the Water Classic. The team's best hope was Hayden Jeanquart at 170 pounds. He made it to the fifth round of the consolation bracket before falling to Fremd's Peter Mondus in overtime.

The Luxemburg-Casco wrestling team came home from LaCrosse with plenty of hardware from the Bi-State Classic over the last two days. Easton Worachek was the top place winner for the Spartans, finishing in fourth place, picking up three pins and two major decisions along the way. Trace Schoenebeck took fifth while Jake Jandrin and Caleb Delebreau took sixth place. Isaac Jerabek (10th) and Blakelee Bastien (12th) also placed in the tournament.
