Spartans sink Marines on 104.1 WRLU

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans upended the Marinette Marines in a North Eastern Conference matchup Monday evening 75-70 snapping a seven-game losing streak.

The Spartans (4-6, 5-9 overall) took control of the first half and went into halftime with a comfortable 40-26 lead thanks to Chase Bukouricz leading the way in scoring with 17 of his team-high 21 points.  The Spartans went on a 16-0 late in the half to open up the big 14 point lead

The Marines used a full court press and made a run in the second half to close within one point, 57-56, but the Spartans would open up the lead again with a nine point run late to finally put the game away.  Caleb Blohowiak contributed  15 points and Jack Rollin added 14 more, eight from the free throw line, to help the Spartan cause.  Dominic Smerchek paced the Marines with 26 points and Cale Ducane contributed 21, but it was not enough as Marinette remains winless with an 0-8 record in the NEC and 0-12 overall.

The Spartans will now host Pulaski to take on the Red Raiders in a non-conference game Tuesday night.  The next boys basketball broadcast on 104.1 WRLU and New Radio Sports Network will be on Thursday, February 2nd when the Spartans host Denmark in NEC action.
