State series begins this weekend

The road to state begins in several sports begins this weekend in a variety of ways, whether the regular season is over or not.

 

The WIAA will announce the pairings for the girls' basketball tournament at 1 p.m. on Saturday. There are 465 teams entering the post-season tournament that will culminate with the State Girls Basketball Tournament Thursday-Saturday, March 9-11 at the Resch Center in Green Bay. There is still just over a week remaining in their regular season.

 

Wrestlers will begin their road to the Kohl Center on Saturday with their regional tournaments, with the top teams in each regional moving onto the team sectional. Luxemburg-Casco, Southern Door, and Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol will share the stage in Denmark as they battle the host school, Brillion, Chilton, Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah, Kiel, Oostburg, Plymouth, Sheboygan Falls, Two Rivers, and Wrightstown. The team sectional will be hosted by Freedom on February 14th. As for Kewaunee, they will head to Weyauwega Fremont to battle Almond-Bancroft, Lourdes Academy, Manawa, Manitowoc Lutheran, Mishicot, New Holstein, Pacelli Catholic, Reedsville, Rosholt, Shiocton, Tri-County, Valders, and the host school. The winner of that regional will head to Gillett/Suring for the team sectional. Both regional meets will begin at 10 a.m.

 

The Door County United swim team will travel to Neenah for their sectional meet. Appleton West, Oshkosh North, Appleton East, Oshkosh West, Pulaski, Green Bay Southwest, Sheboygan North, and Manitowoc Lincoln are all scheduled to compete. Swimming is scheduled to begin at noon.

 

Playoff brackets for boys' basketball will be released on February 20th.
