Four titles on the line at state wrestling tournament

At least four wrestlers from Kewaunee County have a chance at gold at the WIAA State Wrestling Tournament with several others from the area still in line for hardware.

Finishing on top of the podium at the WIAA State Wrestling Meet is still a reality for three Luxemburg-Casco wrestlers. Easton Worachek (132), Max Ronsman (145), and Trace Schoenebeck (182) each won their two matches to advance to the grand march on Saturday. Jake Jandrin, Michael Bostwick, Blakelee Bastien, and Caleb Delebreau are also in line to medal.

Kewaunee's Mitchell Thompson is a win away from Kewaunee's first state title since Jack Severin thanks to a pair of victories on Friday. Thompson did not need a third period in either match, pinning both of his opponents in the second period. Ezra Ducat is also guaranteed a medal after winning his quarterfinal match before falling in the semifinals. Matt Wery could not carry the positive momentum from Thursday into Friday, suffering two second-period pins to end his run at the state meet.

Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol heavyweight Ben Roman won in his first round of wrestle backs to guarantee at least sixth place at the WIAA State Wrestling Tournament. After being pinned in the quarterfinals, Roman won by decision in the consolation bracket's first round to earn another year of medaling at the meet. On the girls' side, Tiani Lemeiux was pinned in the first round of her first consolation bracket match to see her bid for a state medal end.

Southern Door's Hailey Veeser will hit the podium no matter what after picking up another victory on Friday. Veeser won her quarterfinal 15-11 before being pinned in the first period during her semifinal bout. She is guaranteed at least sixth place at 138 pounds. Meanwhile, Nora LeFevre followed up her opening round pin with two straight losses to get eliminated in her first trip to state in the first consolation round.
