Phoenix look to clinch NCAA Tournament berth vs. Cleveland State

The Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball just needs to beat Cleveland State Tuesday morning to punch their ticket to the Big Dance for the first time since 2018. 

 

It did not look good early as the Mastodons jumped out to a 17-7 lead. The Phoenix began their comeback in the second quarter as they returned the favor with their own 10 points advantage in the frame, tying the game on a put-back attempt by Natalie McNeal.

 

Luxemburg-Casco alumna Cassie Schiltz made sure she made her impact known as three of her team-high 17 points came on a near homecourt shot to end the third quarter with the Phoenix leading by five. 

 

 

The Phoenix was able to hold on at the end thanks to some clutch free-throw shooting. Sydney Levy added 14 points while McNeal and  Bailey Butler each contributed 10 points.

 

They will face Cleveland State at 11 a.m. at the Indiana Farmers Colliseum in Indianapolis. The Vikings secured r a 62-52 Quarterfinal win over Milwaukee and a thrilling 63-60 overtime win over Northern Kentucky in the semifinals to earn a rematch against the Phoenix. The two games this season went in favor of the Phoenix as they won their games beat the Vikings on Jan. 14 at Cleveland State 82-65 and then again on Feb. 23, 64-49.
