Coalition formed to save Brewers from leaving

The Milwaukee Brewers are apparently threatening to leave the Cream City, and a new group has formed to potentially stop that from happening.

According to AP Reporter Scott Bauer, Assembly Speaker Robin Vos told the media on Wednesday that Governor Tony Evers' plan to funnel $290 million to the Brewers to make a portion of the $400 million in repairs it says it needs to fix the roof, replace the video boards, and other improvements at American Family Field, is dead on arrival. That plan would extend the Brewers' lease out another 13 years to 2043, an amount of time Vos says should be longer considering the taxpayer investment.

Earlier in the day, a group of business leaders from throughout the state announced the formation of the Home Crew Coalition. The group wants to work with team and state officials to form a plan that could keep the Brewers in the state for future generations. American Family Field, then known as Miller Park, was funded primarily by a 0.1 sales tax in five southeastern Wisconsin counties located near the stadium. The tax took about 24 years to retire the public debt of $310 million. By comparison, Brown County was able to retire its 0.5 percent sales tax to fund the $309.5 million project to renovate Lambeau Field.

While the discussion unfold in Wisconsin, the Brewers beat Great Britain 8-2 in a World Baseball Classic tune-up. Prospects Jackson Chourio and Scott Turang had great days at the plate, combining to hit four hits, score three runs, and drive in a pair. Adrian Houser picked up the win, allowing a single tally and four hits across three innings of work.
