Vikings clinch sectional final berth vs. Bluejays on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar Vikings are on the doorstep of another trip to Madison after beating Three Lakes 60-44 in Suring Thursday night.

Unlike their previous two games, the Vikings got out to a fast start as their size gave the Blue Jays' offense fits and the Vikings used good passing to get open looks. An early dunk by Will Friedenfels electrified the student section, leading to a double-figure lead before the half-point of the first half. Jake Schar knocked down a pair of threes to lead the team with 10 points while Mateo Jauregui set the tone on both ends of the court as he joined Friedenfels with six points at the break.

Jauregui would keep up the strong scoring output along with Schar to stretch the lead to 20 points halfway through the second half. The Blue Jays would begin to cause turnovers and two three-pointers by Jared Kaufman trimmed the lead to 12 for the Vikings thanks to an 8-0 run. The Vikings would answer the call and never drop below a double-digit lead in the second half. One more dunk by Friedenfels and free throws made by Carl Burgess and Braden Sitte salted the game away for the Vikings. Schar led all scorers with 18 points while Jauregui added 16 and Friedenfels chipped in 12 points. Kaufman led the Blue Jays with 14 points and Toby Volkmann contributed nine points. Two others added eight points in the loss for the Vikings.

The Vikings will head west on Saturday for a matchup against the Newman Catholic Cardinals. The game will be held at Seymour High School at a time to be determined. No matter when it is played, 105.1 The GOAT will follow the team there with Tim Kowols and Bryan Mazur kicking the broadcast off 15 minutes before tip-off.
