Gibraltar battles Newman Catholic with state berth stakes in Seymour on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar boys' basketball team is just one win away from a second straight trip to Madison for the state tournament, but they will have to crack Newman Catholic to do it Saturday afternoon.

The Vikings extended their season-long winning streak to six with a 60-44 victory over Three Lakes Thursday night in Suring. Jake Schar led all scorers with 18 points with a couple of three-pointers to his credit. Mateo Jauregui and Will Friedenfels did all of their work inside the paint as they contributed 16 and 12 points respectively. Carl Burgess and Braden Sitte also registered points for the Vikings in the win.

The Cardinals have had a similar path to the sectional final with four double-digit victories as a top seed, defeating Tri-County, Assumption, Columbus Catholic, and Pacelli along the way. In Thursday's 79-58 win over Pacelli, the Cardinals stormed out to 42-16 lead in the first half. The senior-laden line-up will be the Vikings' first challenge with height as the Cardinals boast four players 6'3" or taller. They are led by Mason Prey, who averages 23.5 points per game. Isaac Seidel averages nearly 19 points per game while Conner Krach averages a double-double with 10 points and rebounds per game.

Tim Kowols and Bryan Mazur will call the action on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com from Seymour beginning at 12:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the opening tip at 1 p.m.
