Track teams open season; Algoma and Kewaunee head out again Friday

Several track teams headed out on the road Thursday afternoon for their first indoor meets of the year.

The Algoma Track and Field Boys Team will have two meets in two days after competing at UW-Oshkosh on Thursday. Part of their boys competed at UW Oshkosh last night. Leading the boys in points was Senior Austin Miller placing 2nd in the pole vault, his first medal. Getting 5th in the 3200m run was Sophomore Alex Kirchman, his first medal also. Junior Mason Melohn 7th in shot and senior Cole Younk finished 8th, both with career-bests.

The Kewaunee JV Storm Boys Track start the 2023 season with a great 2nd Place finish at the Wausau West 8 team Invite. The Storm fell to D1 Wausau West by the narrowest of margins 125.5 to Kewaunee's 125.

Luxemburg-Casco's George Herlache sprung past his competition in the teams' first indoor track meet of the new season. For the boys' squad, Herlache posted a height of 12-00 in the pole vault to win the meet. Logan Vandermause (60m and 200m), Jack Rollin (high jump), Trevor Beaupre (long juimp and triple jump), and the 4x200m relay team posted top-five performances. The girls had plenty to boast about as well. Their 4x200m team nearly won their event while Grace Seering (60m hurdles) and Linsey Pardowsky (shot put) posted top-five performances.

A familiar name topped the leaderboard for the Sevastopol track teams at Ripon College's Waters Meet on Thursday. Bea Dramm ran the 1600m in 5:45 to win the event as the Pioneers' top finisher. She also finished in the Top 10 for the 800m as did Kylie Duessler in the 60m and 200m events. Ezra Linnan (1600m) and the 4 x 200m relay were the top finishers for the boys with each taking 14th place.

Sturgeon Bay track's Espen Walker garnered his first win of the season as the team got the indoor season underway at the Ripon College Waters Meet on Thursday.

His leap of 5'10 in the high jump helped capture the team's only event win and the highest placement of any Sturgeon Bay track athlete. Chase Hasenjager (high jump), Julia Kurek (1600m run), and Ella Tarkowski (60m dash) all took posted top-five performances.
