Drew Daoust receives All-State honor alongside regional basketball success

Door County has its second All-State player of the season for Basketball as Drew Daoust on the boys circuit was named to the Division 3 All-State team. He joins Bailey Rikkola who was named to the Division 5 All-State team on the girls side early last week.

Daoust had one of the best seasons in the local area's history, finishing third in the state in scoring at 32.1 points per game. Drew shot 53 percent from the floor, 82 percent from the free-throw line and 39 percent from three-point range. Daoust will enter next year with 1,340 career points, looking to break the county record held by Nathan Vogel, and reach 2,000 points.

The last All-State player for the Eagles of Southern Door was Ryan Claflin on the 2020 team. Claflin finished his Eagle career with over 1,100 career points.

As a sophomore, Daoust has a chance to become a 3 time All-State player at his current pace.

Other local players on the All-State list included two Green Bay NEW Lutheran seniors in Tristian Lynch and Elijah Meerstein. Meerstein was listed as an Honorable Mention with 15 points per game and nearly nine assists per game. Lynch was one of 10 players on the All-State list for Division Five. He led the Blazers with just under 23 points per game.

Also, regional teams had their fair share of success at the Kohl Center this weekend, with two teams from the region taking home a gold ball, and another team who faced a local team in their path raising one as well.

In Division 1 it was De Pere defeating Arrowhead 69-49 to complete their perfect season. The Redbirds had just two wins that were by less than 10 points, with both of those wins coming against powerhouses Wisconsin Lutheran (54-52) and Division 2 Champions Pewaukee (70-63).

Division 3 saw the Brillion Lions take down West Salem 61-55. Brillion defeated local teams like Kewaunee (65-39), Southern Door (79-31), and Luxemburg-Casco (75-34). The Lions finished their season 29-1 with their only loss coming by 1 point against Mosinee.

Finally, in Division 5 Newman Catholic defeated McDonell Catholic 66-54 for the state title. Newman Catholic defeated the Gibraltar Vikings in the Sectional Final to clinch their ticket to Madison. The Vikings have now lost to the last two reigning Division 5 Champions.
