Brewers drop opening day tilt vs. Cubs

The Milwaukee Brewers started their 2023 campaign with a loss on Thursday afternoon at chilly Wrigley Field, losing to the Chicago Cubs 4-0.

The Brewers' Corbin Burnes and the Cubs' Marcus Stroman were locked in a pitchers' duel early with the visitors' biggest threat coming in the third inning with the bases loaded and one out before Rowdy Tellez grounded into a double play. The Cubs would take control in the bottom half of the frame when Dansby Swanson singled home one run and a throwing error by Willy Adames brought home another to make 2-0. Trey Mancini and Yan Gomes would drive in the other runs to make it 4-0.

The combination of Stroman, Keegan Thompson, Brad Boxberger, and Carson Fulmer would collaborate on a four-hitter that also saw them strike out 12 Brewers. Adames, William Contreas, Brian Anderson, and Brice Turang go the lone hits for the Brewers while Christian Yelich drew two walks.

The Brewers will try to even the series on Saturday at 1:20 p.m.
