Brewers and Cardinals begin rival series

The Milwaukee Brewers will welcome in the St. Louis Cardinals for a weekend series, fresh off of their sweep of the New York Mets.

The Freshman, as many people are calling them, have delivered a surprising jolt of life and energy into the 2023 Milwaukee Brewers, leading them to a 5-1 start. Joey Weimer, Garrett Mitchell and Brice Turang have been the rookies giving Milwaukee major production, with Mitchell hitting three home runs in two games.

The Brewers had marginal success against the Cardinals last season, losing the season series 9-10. Milwaukee will look to turn that into their favor this year, as they only have four total series with the Cardinals this season under the new CBA. In prior years, teams in the division would play each other 19 times a season; that has now been cut down to 14.

St. Louis currently sits at 2-4 overall this season after winning a three games series against Toronto, but then getting swept by Atlanta. The Cardinals have a hot hitting rookie of their own as Jordan Walker hit his first career home run Wednesday.

The pitching matchup will be Brandon Woodruff taking on Jack Flaherty. First pitch from American Family Field is set for 7:10 p.m.
