Second inning dooms Spartans baseball vs. Vikings, face Notre Dame Saturday

One bad inning sent the Luxemburg-Casco baseball team reeling to their first loss of the season, a 7-1 season to the Denmark Vikings.

The Vikings jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning, led by a two-RBI double by Braedyn Heezen. They would make it 6-0 in the fourth inning when they received a pair of run-scoring hits by Ethan Ovsak and Izaac Dittmer. The Spartans scored their only run when Drew Bandow drove in Ryan Routhieaux on a sacrifice fly.

The two teams combined for seven errors on the day. Routhieaux took the loss, giving up six runs (three earned) across four innings of work. Braeden Schley gave up one run but struck out three in two innings of relief.

The Spartans are back to work on Saturday when they head back to Capital Credit Union Park in Ashwaubenon for a noon tilt against Green Bay Notre Dame. The Tritons dropped their first game of the season on Thursday when they lost to Ashwaubenon 14-11.
