Eagles sweep Wolves in baseball action

Southern Door swept a baseball DH at Algoma on Saturday. In game 1, Algoma scored 2 runs on 3 hits in the bottom of the 1st inning to erase a 1-0 Eagles lead. SD answered with their own 2-run rally in the top of the 2nd inning behind a Jack Peterson RBI double, followed by a Tyler Neinas RBI single. The Eagles manufactured a run in the top of the 6th inning behind singles from Matthew Malvitz, Neinas, and Jaden Diller, eventually resulting in a 4-2 SD victory. Hitting leaders for the Eagles with 2 hits each included Peterson, Neinas, Diller, and Jared Hawkey. Diller earned the win on the mound, striking out 11 and walking 2 in his 6 innings of work. Tyler Neinas earned the save by retiring all 3 Wolves batters in the 7th inning on a total of 5 pitches. Algoma only had 1 baserunner after the 1st inning, with that runner being removed by a 6th inning double play.

Game 2 was never in doubt after SD plated 3 runs on 3 hits in the bottom of the 3rd inning, with Hawkey, Peterson, and Neinas getting hits. Hits from Diller, Christian Counard, and Malvitz increased the Eagle lead to 5-0 in the 5th inning. A 6th inning 5-run rally started by an Alec Guilette single and a Braylon Berg double, resulted in the game ended by the 10-run rule in the bottom of the 6th inning with a 10-0 final score.

With the 2 wins, SD goes to 5-0 for the season and 4-0 in the Packerland Conference. Their next scheduled game is 4:30 Monday afternoon at Manitowoc Lutheran.
