Baseball Preview: Sturgeon Bay hosts Kewaunee on U-102.1

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers baseball team will look to change the tide from their weekend doubleheader against Oconto when they play another doubleheader against Kewaunee Tuesday afternoon.

The Clippers lost to the first place Oconto Blue Devils in both games, with scores of 10-3 and 18-3 sealing their fate on Saturday morning. The Clippers started out game one strong with a pair of runs on RBI singles by Brody Kollath and Curt Meyer. The Blue Devils would respond with two runs in the first, three runs in the second, and four runs in the third inning. The Clippers would cut the lead with a Gavin Fernandez RBI single in the fifth, but the Clippers would give it back in the following inning en route to the 10-3 loss. Emmett Braschnewitz and Brody Kollath combined to strike out five batters while allowing nine earned runs. The second game would be a shortened game due to the run rule, with Sturgeon Bay being down 11-0 before Curt Meyer drove in an RBI.

For the Kewaunee Storm, they are coming off an impressive display of play in the Wisconsin Dells tournament, going 3-0 against some strong competition. With wins over Northwestern, Lake Mills, and St. Mary’s Springs, the Storm picked up three wins over teams with a combined record of 9-7 on the season. Cal Ihlenfeldt and Peyton Kohnle have been the leaders so far this season for the Storm, and will look to continue that success into their first Packerland Conference game of the season.

Gary Barta and Reece Robillard will have the call from Memorial Field on U-102.1 and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com. The pregame show is set for 4:15 with the first pitch of the doubleheader set for 4:30 p.m.

Other games in the area includes Gibraltar finishing their second game against NEW Lutheran and Luxemburg Casco battling Little Chute in the matchup of LC's.
