Softball round-up: Algoma wins regional; Southern Door, L-C fall on NRSN

Of the four local teams that entered Thursday's regional final slate, only one team will play in a WIAA Softball Sectional game next week.

The drama was well worth it for the Algoma softball team as they beat St. Mary's Springs 8-7 in walk-off fashion. The Wolves (16-6) host second-seeded St. Mary's Catholic in a sectional semifinal Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The winner plays for a shot at state Thursday at Crivitz vs. either Bonduel or Iola-Scandinavia.

All 15 runs were scored in the first three innings, but it was Sevastopol that came up empty at the end of their 11-4 loss to Almond-Bancroft in the WIAA Regional Championship Thursday afternoon.

The Southern Door Eagles softball team was not able to string together enough hits to generate much offense as the Eagles fell to New Holstein 4-1 on U-102.1 Thursday afternoon.

The #1 seeded Luxemburg-Casco girls softball team saw their season end abruptly Thursday afternoon as the #4 Marinette Marines upset the Spartans 5-2 in the Division II regional final in Luxemburg on 104.1 WRLU.
