Algoma softball battles St. Mary Catholic in sectional-semifinals

The Algoma softball team can get one step closer to Madison on Tuesday when they host St. Mary Catholic in the WIAA Sectional Semifinals.

The drama was well worth it for the Algoma softball team as they beat St. Mary's Springs 8-7 in walk-off fashion to earn their spot in the semifinal. The Wolves would not score until Jaydyn Nellis cleared the bases on a triple to drive in Hannah Nell and Teagen Luedke to deliver the regional championship Macie Zimmerman picked up the win in the circle as she went the distance, allowing seven runs (4 ER) and 11 hits while striking out four.

St. Mary Catholic come riding into Algoma on a seven-game winning streak, including their own slim 4-2 regional championship win over Reedsville. The team provides plenty of offense, scoring more than 10 runs nine times in the year.
