Algoma softball set for sectional final on 104.1 WRLU

After paving their road to the Sectional Final, the Algoma Wolves will look to finish what they started and punch their ticket to Madison when they face Iola-Scandinavia on Thursday.

Whether it was the blowout win over Stockbridge/Hilbert 11-0 that featured a no hitter from freshman Macie Zimmerman, or the walk off of St. Mary's Springs 8-7 that won them a regional title, the Algoma Wolves have survived and advanced in many different ways. It will only take one more win however to find themselves in Madison for the state tournament. Algoma has outscored their opponents 24-9 in their three games played in the playoffs, and will need more perfect play to beat Iola-Scandinavia. Deep in the postseason, pitching is what wins teams games, and the Wolves have rode on the shoulders of Macie Zimmerman.

Iola-Scandinavia has been a high scoring offense throughout the postseason as they have wins of 12-10, 8-2, and most recently 9-6 over top seeded Bonduel. The Thunderbirds are 20-9 overall and have won 10 games in the past 11 they have played. The Wolves of Algoma will not be placed with an easy task, but neither will the Thunderbirds as both teams battle it out for a spot in the final four competing at Goodman Diamond in Madison next week.

Gary Barta and Paul Schmitt will have the coverage from Crivitz High School on 104.1 WRLU and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 4:15 p.m. with the pregame show and 4:30 p.m. first pitch for the Division 4 Softball Sectional Final between the Algoma Wolves and the Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds.
