The Milwaukee Brewers lost ground on the Cincinnati Reds but gained a new bat ahead of the trade deadline on August 1st.
An RBI double by William Contreas, an RBI single from Andruw Monasterio, and a Joey Wiemer homer gave the Brewers a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh. The Nationals would reverse the Brewers' fortunes with a three-run seventh inning, capped off by Joey Meneses' two-run single. Elvis Peguero took the loss for the Brewers, giving up the three late runs across two-thirds of an inning.
The Brewers made a move ahead of Tuesday's 5 p.m. trade deadline, dealing farmhand RHP Justin Jarvis for the New York Mets' switch-hitting OF Mark Canha plus cash considerations. He joins 1B Carlos Santana, previously of the Pittsburgh Pirates, as the team's two newest players.
