Brewers lose to Cards, clinch Division with Cubs loss

The Milwaukee Brewers only had to wait a few minutes after dropping their own game 4-1 to the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday night before celebrating the National League Central Division championship.

With the Chicago Cubs blowing a 6-0 lead to the Atlanta Braves and losing 7-6, the Brewers popped champagne after winning their third division championship and making their fifth playoff appearance in the last six years.

Tuesday’s game saw the Brewers jump to a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI double by Carlos Santana, but St. Louis responded by scoring two runs in the fourth and fifth innings to secure the 4-1 win.   Brewer starter Adrian Hauser (7-5) took the loss allowing all four runs on three hits in five innings.

The Brewers (88-69) will now play the final two games with the Cardinals Wednesday and Thursday before finishing the regular season with a three-game series with the Cubs this weekend.

Milwaukee will host the number three wild card team in a three-game playoff series starting next Tuesday at American Family Field.
