Gibraltar boys look for first win against Wabeno/Laona

The Gibraltar Vikings boys' basketball team hopes their first win comes during a Saturday matinee at home against Wabeno/Laona.

Two of the top scorers in the Packerland Conference dueled on Thursday, with Thomas Stangel lifting the Kewaunee Storm past the Braden Sitte-led Vikings 64-48. Sitte was the only Vikings player to reach double-figures for the second straight game, scoring 25 points. Liam Lindenberg added six points, and Kayin Jackson chipped in five in the second straight loss for the Vikings. Head coach Travis Ward was proud of his team for the effort, saying they played hard. He added that whenever his team went on the run, the Storm would have an answer or force his team into a bad decision.

The Rebels have opened the season with four straight losses, including the last two by five points apiece to Northwest Christian Homeschool Association and Three Lakes. Canton Chrisman and Walker Winkelman are both averaging about 15 points a game to lead the Rebels.

Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.

In Friday's action, Luxemburg-Casco outlasted Oconto Falls 58-55.
