Several athletes punch tickets to state track meet

Door and Kewaunee counties will be well represented at next week's WIAA State Track Meet after area teams competed in Appleton (Division 2) and Rosholt (Division 3) on Thursday.

A familiar face is leading the Kewaunee track team to next weekend's state meet after nearly a dozen qualified at the Rosholt sectional on Thursday. On the girls' side, Hannah Miller won the 400m and took second place in the 800m and triple jump to qualify in three events. For the boys, Maddix Mueller (triple jump), Braxton Riha (shot put), Kemper Robinson (discus), and the 4x200m relay punched their own tickets to LaCrosse.

The Luxemburg-Casco girls track team will be sending several athletes to LaCrosse for the state meet after finding the podium at the Freedom Sectional on Thursday. The girls' 4x200m relay team is heading back to state with a time of 1:46.87, breaking the school record from 1999. Grace Seering will be heading to state in 300 hurdles with a time of 47.99. Although they just missed out on a chance to go to state, the girls' 4x400m relay broke the school record from 1978 with a time of 4:06.51.

One member of the Sturgeon Bay track team will sail to LaCrosse next weekend after a successful day at the Freedom sectional on Thursday. Ella Tarkowski's 100m time of 12.9 was good enough to take 2nd in the race, earning her spot in the WIAA State Meet. Jade Tomberlin and Cady Carlson also finished in the top eight. Xavier Jandrin was the top-performing boy for the Clippers, finishing in the top 10 in the pole vault.

McKailey Reisen will not be alone at next weekend's state track meet as Gibraltar will be represented in three events thanks to their success at the Rosholt sectional. The girls 4x100m relay qualified with a personal best time of 52.18 to come in fourth place. Reisen qualified in high jump with a jump of 5'1 to come in third place and she took second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.16. Braden Sitte paced the boys' squad with a top-10 finish in the high jump.

You will not see Algoma represented at next week's state track meet, but you will still find plenty of good performances from their afternoon at the Rosholt sectional. Brennan Buckman (pole vault) and Alex Kirchman (3200m) each posted their personal bests in their respective events, with Buckman coming in fifth place. On the girls side, Gerdmann placed outside of the top four but still registered points in the shot put and discus.

The Sevastopol track season came to a close in Rosholt on Thursday with some good performances to end things on the right foot. Jarius Dadam (pole vault) and Caitlyn Fellner (400m) finished in seventh place in their respective events with personal records. The 4x200m relay was the closest to qualifying with a sixth place finish.

No one from Southern Door will head to LaCrosse next week, but that does not mean that members of its track team did not turn in some great performances at the Freedom sectional on Thursday. Danica Neville was the closest to qualifying, coming in fifth place in the pole vault as one of five Eagles to come in the top eight spots to earn points for the team. Ben Grota (3200m), Damontrae Meeks (300m hurdles), Cruz Calvillo (discus), and MaKenna Geyer (discus) earned personal records in their final track meet of the year.
