Three wrestlers win tournament titles on Saturday

The area's four teams went to two separate tournaments in the region on Saturday.

Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol's Zak Wrobel and Spencer Madsen captured a little history on their way to the top of the podium. SBS ended up in third place overall thanks to titles from Wrobel and Madsen and top-three finishes from Nate Hasenjager, Harrison Schartner, Ethan Denamur, and Patrick Shefchik. Wrobel's pin of Waupun's Landen Larsen marked his 100th win of his varsity career. Madsen also set the record for the most two-point near falls during the tournament.

A small contingent of wrestlers from Kewaunee still brought home hardware from the Brillion Invitational on Saturday. Trevor Gauthier was the lone Storm wrestler in the top three, earning three wins before losing to Colton Klug of Brillion via tech fall in the championship match to earn second place.

The Luxemburg-Casco wrestling team could not hold off host Bay Port for another Battle on the Bay title, but individuals still brought home plenty of hardware from the tournament. The Spartans were led by Carson Neubert, who won the 132-pound weight class. Seven others finished in the top six in the 32-team tournament.

Lance Veeser was the lone Southern Door wrestler to finish in the Top 10 of his weight class at Saturday's Battle on the Bay at Bay Port High School in Suamico. He pinned his first two opponents before being forced to forfeit two of his final three matches due to medical reasons. Clark LeFevre, Lukas Kallin, and Chance Dekeyser also won two matches on the day.
