The sounds of baseball on the radio in Milwaukee will never be the same again after the Brewers organization announced the passing of its radio voice, Bob Uecker, Thursday morning.
Uecker served as the radio voice for his hometown Brewers since 1971 after playing career with the Milwaukee Braves and Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Philadelphia Phillies. His career .200 average became a punchline during his thousands of baseball broadcasts as he interweaved what was going on with the game with his decades of material for storytelling. Much of the country got to know Uecker away from the baseball diamonds of Milwaukee. Outside of his nationally televised baseball work, His appearance on The Tonight Show became legendary and led to roles on TV's Mr. Belvidere, advertisements for Miller Brewing Company and Usinger sausages, and cinema's Major League trilogy.
Uecker passed away at the age of 90.
