The Green Bay Phoenix showed how the Cleveland State Vikings how to finish a half in women's basketball as they secured a 59-50 win on the road Wednesday night.
The Phoenix outscored the Vikings 21-11 in the second quarter and 20-10 in the fourth quarter to secure their 17th straight victory. The strong finishes were necessary, particularly in the second quarter after the Vikings entered the frame with a 13-9 lead thanks to six Phoenix turnovers. A Maddy Schreiber three-ball at the end of the first quarter sparked the comeback, allowing the Phoenix to hold on to the advantage for much of the game from that point on.
Schreiber led the way with 16 points, two points away from hitting the 1,000-point milestone. Bailey Butler added 15 points, and Natalie McNeal contributed another 12 points in the Phoenix's 17th consecutive win.
The Phoenix looks to hold onto first place in the Horizon League and extend that streak Saturday when they welcome UW-Milwaukee for a 1 p.m. game.
