Area sends eight wrestlers to state meet

Door and Kewaunee counties will be well represented at next weekend's WIAA State Wrestling Tournament after eight local wrestlers qualified at Saturday's sectional meets.

The Luxemburg-Casco wrestling team found themselves on top of two separate podiums at Saturday's Fond du Lac Sectional, with four others qualifying for next weekend's state meet. Carson Neubert (126 lbs.) and Blakelee Bastien (144 lbs.) won their respective weight classes, going a combined 6-0 with a pin and a technical fall apiece. Joseph Jeanquart (132 lbs.), Mason Boulanger (150 lbs.), Logan Ellwanger (167 lbs.), Calvin Bohm (285 lbs.) are also heading to Madison after taking second place in their respective weight classes.

Kewaunee's Mitchell Boeder had a quick Saturday en route to another date in Madison next weekend after claiming the sectional championship in Valders. Boeder had three pins on Saturday, with only one of them reaching the second period to capture the crown at 285 pounds.

With more than 50 wins under his belt this season, Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol's Spencer Madsen will have the opportunity to add his total in Madison after winning the Seymour Sectional Saturday. Madsen did not need the full six minutes in any of his three matches, winning by pin in his first match before earning technical falls in his final two bouts to win the title at 157 pounds. Zak Wrobel, Ethan Denamur, and Harry Schartner were each able to wrestle a second match before bowing out in the consolation rounds.

Two Southern Door wrestlers battled their way into medal contention, but not high enough to extend their season to next weekend's state tournament in Madison. Clark LeFevre (120), Ethan Alexander (138), and Lance Veeser (165) all recorded at least one win on the day, battling their way through wrestlebacks to give them a chance in the third-place match to punch their ticket to the state tournament. All came up just short in their final match of the day.
