An extremely close affair between two pretty evenly matched teams in Sturgeon Bay and Kiel played out at the Sturgeon Bay High School Gymnasium last night. The regional quarterfinal was a see-saw affair throughout, but the Clippers pulled it out in the final minutes 60-54.
Senior Joey Sheehy created a pair of fourth quarter steals that triggered instant offense for the Clippers. The all-out effort propelled a momentum shift that swung the game over to Sturgeon Bay. Sheehy tallied 13 points in the fourth quarter and 23 points on the night.
Fellow senior Riley Cordier added 18 points as Sturgeon Bay went from down four points with four minutes to play to up four just over a minute and a half later. The Raiders struggled with Sturgeon Bay’s trapping defense late. It led to a 12-0 Clippers run in the waning moments of the fourth quarter.
Sturgeon Bay will next play at number one ranked Roncalli Friday. The Jets have just one loss on the season.
