The Southern Door wrestling team finished seventh out of 20 teams at the Sheboygan North Invitational Saturday. The Eagles advanced four wrestlers into the finals with two finishing as champion and two in second.
Here is a look at Coach Jerry Englebert's synopsis of the tournament:
126 - Hunter Pawelski received a bye, beat Naoh Scott from Seymour by technical fall 17-2, won by decision over Josh Becker of Sheboygan falls and then lost by pin in the finals to Fritz Schierl from Stevens Point 3:08. Hunter wrestled well in the first two matches and started strong in the finals before getting caught in a cradle.
132 - Jacob Englebert received a bye, pinned Jake Malwitz Sheboygan South 3:03 and won by decision 6-1 over Sam Merrill from Oshkosh West before pinning Bryce Zdanovec of Little Chute 5:36 in the finals. Jacob had a very good day despite battling a touch of the flu. Jacob surpassed 100 career wins on the day and earned the pin in the finals over Zdanovec who is currently ranked 5th by the Crossface.
145 - Colin Schubert pinned Justin Hill of Sheboygan Falls in 1:30, decisioned Wiese of Plymouth 11-2, won by technical fall 16-0 over Clint Hoftieze of Oostburg and won again by technical fall in the finals 20-4 over Reed Matz of Oshkosh West. Colin was in control of every match start to finish. He's wrestling extremely well right now with a lot of confidence.
160 - Nolan Wagner pinned Sam Bougie of Oshkosh West in 3:59, then pinned Duchow of Valders in 1:04. In the semi-finals he beat Dimmick of Two Rivers 4-3. In the finals he lost a tough match to Mitchell Lambrecht of Sheboygan Falls 5-4. Nolan was in a very tough weight class. This is the third time this year wrestling Dimmick of Two Rivers with Nolan winning each match by 1 point. In the finals it was a split second lapse in his stance while recovering from takedown attempt that made the difference. Nolan battled back but Lambrecht is a tough opponent and doesn't make many mistakes.
