High School Girls Basketball Thursday Night Review

Senior night at Southern Door was not the happy celebration Eagles players and parents hoped it would be against Oconto Thursday night. Oconto ran past Southern Door 66-39 thanks to the impressive play of junior Division 1 NCAA recruit Laken James. Her 22 points featured some sensational passing and tough defense as well.

The Eagles honored seniors Cora Baudhuin, Kayli Mallien, LaRae Bagnall, Rachel Andres and Cheyanne McFarlin before the game and thanked them for their commitment to the program. Southern Door was led in scoring by Cheyanne McFarlin and Courtney VanHout with 11 points each.

Algoma cruised past Gibraltar 69-39 despite a 20 point outing by Emma Kuntsman. The Vikings played one of their better games of the season despite the outcome. Taylor Schmidt paced the Wolves with 18 points.

Kewaunee throttled Sturgeon Bay 62-10 including a third quarter shutout. Sturgeon Bay was held to a total of one point in the second half. Alex Richard scored 18 points for Kewaunee. No Clipper scored more than two points in the loss.

N.E.W. Lutheran and Sevastopol played the closest game of the night with the Blazers picking up a 37-32 victory in Institute. Jaci Mielke led all scorers with 17 points.

In the Bay Conference, Luxemburg-Casco fell to Hortonville 40-32. Maggie Liebeck led L-C with 11 points in the loss.
