Area Wrestlers Advance To State Tournament

 

Six Luxemburg-Casco wrestlers, two Southern Door wrestlers, two Kewaunee wrestlers and a Sturgeon Bay wrestler are heading to the WIAA state wrestling tournament that begins Thursday at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Junior Luke Destiche (220 pounds) and senior Newton Smerchek (285) won titles in their weight classes for the Spartans. Their teammates Mason Berceau (126), Dylan Blemke (152), Jordan Pardowsky (170) and Dan Dorner (195) are also advancing to the state tourney after taking second or third in their weight classes at the WIAA Division 2 Seymour sectional yesterday.

Hunter Pawelski (120) and Colin Schubert (145), who won a sectional title, will represent Southern Door in Division 2 at state.

Sturgeon Bay's Lucas Stephenson (182) will represent the Clippers in Madison.

In Division 3, Kewaunee will send two wrestlers to Madison. Junior David Steinhorst (195) won his class title and senior Adam Kuehl was runner-up in 220 at the Bonduel sectional yesterday in Shawano.
