Bench clearing brawls do not seem to happen in Major League Baseball as much as they once did. Last night, the ugly side of the game reared its head through in a rivalry game between the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Former Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Zack Greinke unintentionally hit Padres batter Carlos Quentin with a 3-2 count in the sixth inning. Quentin charged the mound and the two collided as each dropped their shoulders. The result of the brawl was a broken collarbone for the Cy Young winner Greinke. No word on how long the injury will keep the high priced pitcher off the field.
Both teams said the melee could have been avoided.
