A heated rivalry played out yesterday at Sister Bay for the 2013 Door County League Playoff Championship. The number four seed Kolberg beat third seed Sister Bay 6-4. Jeff Spreber blasted a homerun to help Kolberg to victory. Chris Wery entered the game in the ninth inning and earned the extra inning victory.
The 10 inning affair featured a two run top of the tenth for Kolberg. The two teams saw their rivalry grow after an intense championship game. Kolberg hoisted the Roland “Fritz” Woldt Trophy and the Jeff DeJardine Trophy in victory after a hard fought victory.
After the game the 2013 Door County League awards were also announced. West Jacksonport dominated the regular season and the league awards. Woody Schartner was named Most Valuable Player and Pitcher of the Year. Ports manager Cody Leist was named Manager of the Year. The batting championship went to Institute’s Cody Giesseman with a .515 average.
