Moviegoers to the Sturgeon Bay Cinema 6 played a role in propelling Avengers: Endgame to the biggest opening weekend in motion picture history. The fourth picture in Marvel Comics Avengers series generated $1.2-billion in sales worldwide. Tim Suick, the owner of Suick Theatres, which include Sturgeon Bay Cinema 6, says he knew by fan interest that this segment was a huge hit even before the first screening.
Suick says a motion picture's success is not based on ticket sales alone. Other sales also determine whether a new release will be a hit.
Suick cannot say whether Avengers: Endgame will match the success of the original Star Wars release, which was still in first-run theaters over a year after opening. Suick says unlike 1977 when one or two film prints of Star Wars might play in a multiplex theatre, digital technology now allows a film to run on multiple screens simultaneously to more than meet demand.
