A conversation about kickball with his son not only gave Ryan Shaw an idea for a fun day with his family, but also a way to give back to those in need.
Shaw is a member of Door County Mutual Aid, an inclusive network of friends and neighbors who work together to fill needs in the community. One of those needs is stocking the shelves at area food pantries, which are serving more people as families struggle to make ends meet. Shaw had been looking for a way to not only help people, but also have fun doing it. While walking home with his son from the Door County YMCA, the idea for the Door County Mutual Aid Kickball Can Drive on Sunday, July 26, was born.
The game will start at 2 p.m., and Shaw says people of all abilities are invited to play or simply watch. Free food and beverages will be provided, and attendees are encouraged to bring a canned food item. While the food donated at the event will support Lakeshore CAP, Shaw hopes it inspires those who cannot attend to donate to their local food pantries.
