You have just over a week remaining to catch some of the best musicians in the Midwest at Birch Creek Music Performance Center. The second big band jazz session is down to just 15 performances across the county before the curtain closes on the academy season Aug. 8, including seven full shows on its Egg Harbor campus.
Hundreds of students and faculty members called Birch Creek home this summer, traveling from across the country to participate in one of the four summer sessions. Executive Director Jenna Ferdon says it is a bittersweet moment for her and the staff after dedicating the other nine months of the year to ensuring these three months are special and rewarding for the students they serve.
Just because the summer academy season ends next week does not mean the learning stops at Birch Creek. Adult retreats begin the following week, with free concerts featuring the wind ensemble Aug. 15, chamber music Aug. 20 and piano Aug. 24.
