While strawberries, cherries and apples have been agritourism mainstays for decades, lavender is carving out its own path. Reaching its peak from mid-July to early August, lavender farms are becoming increasingly popular in Wisconsin. While the Midwest's largest lavender producer calls Washington Island home, you can also catch the familiar purple hue dotting the landscape in communities such as Kewaunee, Pulaski, Kiel and Baraboo.

Glen Innish Farms owner Amber Hewett is one of the newest entrants after planting five different varieties of lavender in 2021 before settling on two varieties to cultivate two years later. Hewett says it has been a great complement to their operation, as lavender can be used for culinary and self-care purposes.

Many lavender fields are open for you-pick events in the coming weeks before the season comes to a close. That includes this weekend's Lavender Festival at Glen Innish Farms.
