The Kewaunee Police Department shared its condolences and gratitude following a fatal boat crash earlier this week. The accident occurred about 4:30 a.m. along the north breakwall near the Kewaunee Lighthouse Pier.
An 81-year-old Appleton man, identified Thursday as Jimmie D. Brooks, was driving his 18-foot fishing boat out of Kewaunee Harbor when it struck the south side of the north breakwall. He suffered fatal injuries in the crash, and his body was recovered by the U.S. Coast Guard.
His passenger, 68-year-old Randy H. Sieg of Appleton, was rescued, taken to shore and treated for his injuries by Kewaunee Rescue. The Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department, Kewaunee Marina and Kewaunee Public Works Department also assisted in the rescue effort.
In Thursday’s release, Kewaunee Police Chief Robin Mueller extended her sympathies to the victims’ families and expressed gratitude to the responding agencies and other boaters who assisted in recovering Brooks’ and Sieg’s personal property.
