Faces of the Farmers Market: Food Rescue

Some of the people who benefit from the Sturgeon Bay Farmers Market are faces you do not regularly see on Saturday mornings. For the last few years, the Sturgeon Bay Farmers Market has participated in a food rescue initiative that takes fresh, unsold produce donated by market vendors and brings it to Lakeshore CAP for distribution to local families in need.

More than a dozen businesses have helped Destination Sturgeon Bay collect more than 1,000 pounds of food through the program, ensuring that families who rely on Lakeshore CAP to help keep their pantries and refrigerators full have healthy options to choose from.

In this week’s episode of the Faces of the Farmers Market Podcast, Door County Media Group’s Bryan Mazur discussed the Food Rescue program with Door County Mutual Aid’s Carol Jensen-Olson, Grow Door County’s Matt Peter and Dromhus’ Heather Popp.
