Americans are becoming more comfortable discussing their mental health with others, but there is still progress to be made when it comes to addressing those challenges. According to the American Psychological Association, 83% of Americans say they are generally comfortable talking about their mental health. Despite this, 41% of Americans feel uncomfortable seeking professional help for themselves.
Jennalee Lundquist of Door County Medical Center’s Senior Life Solutions says that is a normal feeling, but people should know about resources they can access without booking an appointment. For example, DCMC and Door County Public Health collaborated to bring CredibleMind to the community. The free online platform puts videos, podcasts, apps, online programs, books and more right at your fingertips.
However you receive help, Lundquist hopes you know that it is OK to ask for it.
Through the Door County Mental Health Focus Group, Lundquist says they have also worked hard to promote the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and other initiatives in the community.
