John F. Swanson, 71, Sister Bay, formerly of Minneapolis, MN passed away Monday (January 14, 2019) while at Hearthside CBRF in Sister Bay.
He was born May 23, 1947, in Berwyn, Illinois the son of the late Kermit and Jean (White) Swanson. He graduated from Naperville High School in 1965 before receiving a BA in English Literature from Carleton College, MN, master’s degree from the University of Chicago, then completing his studies and received Ph.D. at Washington University, St. Louis, MO.
John worked for various community arts organizations including, Indiana University and Assistant to the President of the Minnesota Orchestra. He was a voracious reader, a student of literature and old movies, and had a fervent appreciation of classical music. John was a member of the Northern Door Book Club.
Survivors include his dear sister, Judith Teicher, and brother, Carl A. Swanson; two nieces, Rachael (Dan Smrz) Swanson and her two children, Lief and Owen Bergwin, Sarah (Michael) Bergwin and their child, Zetta; and many dear friends.
A service remembering John will be held in Minnesota in spring. There will be a gathering of friends in Door County soon.
