As the world’s population of seniors grows around you, so will the number of people living with a mental disorder. According to the World Health Organization, one in six people in the world will be aged 60 years or older by 2030. Due to lonliness, social isolation and other factors that come with aging, approximately 14 percent of these adults live with a mental disorder. Senior Life Solutions Program Manager Jennalee Lundquist says things like retirement, moving, deaths of loved ones, physical limitations, and the loss of independence are all factors that could lead to seniors developing mental health issues.
