Professional soccer will soon call Milwaukee with a new stadium to boot.
The United Soccer League (USL) and local investors Kacmarcik Enterprises and Milwaukee Pro Soccer announced on Wednesday that a new stadium anchoring the future Iron District will house a future USL Championship franchise. USL Championship is a level below Major League Soccer (MLS) and recently saw one of its franchises, the Sacramento Republic, beat three MLS sides on its way to a berth in the U.S. Open Cup Final.
The proposed stadium will also be the home for Marquette soccer and lacrosse teams and anchor the Iron District development, including a hotel, an indoor concert venue, and more amenities.
The team could be the third USL franchise to call Wisconsin home once it starts up in 2025. Forward Madison FC was the top draw for the USL League 1 in 2022, while USL League Two could once again feature the Green Bay Voyageurs if it returns after the hiatus it took this year.
