New program hopes to "Match Up Door County" seniors with jobs

If you are willing and able to get back into the workforce after a long career doing something else, a new program could help you do that. MatchUp Door County was born out of surveys and listening sessions organized by Do Good Door County that showed that more than 25 percent of the local older adults were interested in part-time jobs in order not just to pay the bills but also to interact with other residents and to give back to the community. The program links older adults with businesses that share their values and can adjust based on the individual’s needs, time commitments, and experiences. MatchUp Door County Coordinator Kris Ingram says some older adults do not know where to start, and local businesses struggle to find reliable workers.

Whether you are looking to be hired or hope to do the hiring, you can contact MatchUp Door County for more information. According to a 2023 Forbes magazine article, approximately 20 percent of Americans are “unretired,” citing fears of outliving their finances as their main reason for returning to the workplace in either a full-time or part-time role.
