Lost in the shuffle of last Thursday’s midday closure of Michigan Street is that you will not be able to use it for most of the week beginning Monday. Wisconsin Department of Transportation crews will be onsite Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, conducting annual maintenance, inspection, and cleaning of the historic bridge. The closures will take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Although a little bit later than last year, the work is considered routine. Motorists will have to rely on the Maple/Oregon Street Bridge and the Bayview Bridge to get around Sturgeon Bay when it is closed. It will be the second time DOT crews had to work on the Michigan Street Bridge after an overheight vehicle damaged traffic signals Thursday morning, closing the roadway for approximately four hours.
